How Many Times Should Carrot Be Fed?

Carrots should be fed 1-3 times a week. Carrots should be a staple crested gecko diet. Since a gecko’s diet are mainly insects and larvae.

However, they should serve as something to increase the overall vitamin and mineral intake in their diet.

Half a carrot is more than enough for an adult crested gecko. You will even need less when feeding carrots to hatchling and juvenile crested geckos. 

What Is The Ratio Of Calcium To Phosphorus In Carrot?

The ratio of calcium to phosphorus in carrot is 1:0.875. This indicates that there is 0.875 times as much phosphorus as calcium in the carrot.

According to the nutritional content, the Ca:P ratio is 4.8mg:4.2mg. Dividing through by 4.8 (calcium). The ratio becomes 1:0.875.

How Does Oxalic Acid Affect Your Pet?

Oxalic acid is not a nutrient or essential dietary component and it is not required for normal growth or health.

When oxalic acid is consumed, it binds to the calcium and magnesium in the body and prevents them from being absorbed.

This can lead to calcium deficiency which can be harmful to your pet. Crested geckos are strict insectivores and may not benefit from the oxalic acid in the food and may not be able to digest it.

Some people recommend soaking and rinsing the fruits or vegetables to get rid of the oxalic acid. However, this is not proven to be effective.

What is the Oxalic Acid Level In Carrots?

Carrots have an oxalic acid level of about 0.5mg, which is considered very low. This level of oxalic acid poses no threat to your crested gecko and thus safe to eat.
